San Francisco indie group The Dodos was formed in 2005 as Dodo Bird. Six years, one name change, and three LPs later (one critically acclaimed, one less so, and one too early to be noticed), the band released its newest album, No Color. No Color is an evolution from Time to Die's mixed success into a more careful sound for The Dodos. It's not an entirely successful evolution, but it is one that leaves us with an often intriguing album.

Even though Radiohead hasn't released any new albums since 2007's masterpiece In Rainbows, it was still a surprise to see the band's Valentine's Day announcement of their newest release, The King of Limbs. Given the high bar set by the band's last album (not to mention the rest of their catalog), The King of Limbs has a lot of expectations to fulfill. It doesn't quite fulfill them all; however, it is quite a unique album, both in general, and for Radiohead specifically.

Sacramento band CAKE has returned from its latest break with a new album, Showroom of Compassion. The band, which generally produces albums in three year intervals, has clearly spent quite a bit of time conceptualizing their newest release. Although the band's members have not changed since before Pressure Chief, there's a lot that is completely novel for CAKE on Showroom of Compassion, both tonally and thematically. Problems arise with changes, and on Showroom this takes the form of severe levels of repetition, but in the end, the album is still quite interesting, if not excellent.

Portland indie-art-folk group The Decemberists, now in their 11th year and more popular than ever, will release their sixth LP, currently available for streaming, later this month. After 2009's lackluster The Hazards of Love, it's hard not to have some trepidation mixed into the excitement for the group's new album. Fortunately, while The King Is Dead isn't a masterpiece on the level of, say, The Crane Wife, it's certainly a solid album.

Singer-songwriter Andrew English, of Lexington, KY, released his first, self-titled, album as frontman of Englishman last month, following his 2009 EP Taxidermy. On Englishman, English shows himself to be an able songsmith, combining strong vocals with carefully constructed instrumentals to create a variety of interesting tracks. All together, Englishman makes a solid debut album, and one that's certainly worth listening to.
