Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall's third LP, Tiger Suit, came out on Tuesday, just over 3 years after her quite successful second album, Drastic Fantastic. Tiger Suit sticks with the style of that last album (as opposed to Tunstall's debut album, Eye to the Telescope) in that it focuses on a poppier sound rather than the folk-influenced sound of Telescope. While it's hard not to admit that Tunstall's music has lost something in Tunstall's larger musical transition, Tiger Suit has a good bit of its own charm. Still, lacking the freshness of either earlier album, it falls short of being a positive development in any direction.

Ambient indie band Deerhunter released its fourth album Halycon Digest at the end of last month. With a list of former band members that both eclipses its list of current band members and is close to as numerous as the number of years the band has been active, it is unsurprising that Deerhunter's sound on Halycon Digest is fairly fragmented. Most noticeably, tracks on the album stray from truly interesting to absolutely abysmal, and most tend towards one end of the spectrum or the other, leaving very little in the middle.

Founded in Cambridge, Mass., indie band The Weepies have been active since 2001, and on the Nettwerk label for much of that time. Their newest and fourth album, Be My Thrill was released at the end of last month. Be My Thrill is certainly a unique album, although it is not a particularly good one. Be My Thrill is, in fact, half-bad.

Detroit electro-pop artist Matthew Dear started releasing music in 1999, followed by his first LP, 2003's Leave Luck to Heaven. Since then, Dear has developed his own distinct style of music, combining techno, house, and pop to create his own sound. Dear's fourth album, Black City, released last week, is, while not entirely successful, an interesting development of his sound.

After playing with NYC group Black Dice, artist and musician Sebastian Blanck began recording on his own, and Tuesday's Alibi Coast is his first solo album. With Alibi Coast, Blanck combines instrumental experience from Black Dice along with contributions from several vocalists to create an interesting, though not entirely unique, album. But uniqueness aside, when Alibi Coast works well, it's certainly a pleasure to listen to. The problem, then, is that the same idea can only be a pleasure for so long.
