Brooklyn indie-folk group Woods, formed in 2005, released their fifth album, At Echo Lake, on the 4th. Like Woods' earlier work, At Echo Lake combines the folk base of the band's music with psych-rock to create the band's own brand of psych-folk. However, though there's plenty of potential in that particular blend, At Echo Lake has far too many flaws to bring everything together in a way that does it justice.

Future Islands, a fundamentally synth-based band, released its newest LP this past Tuesday. In Evening Air is at once an interesting and extremely boring album. The album encapsulates elements of indie, synth-pop, and even death metal; however, the fact that the best part of In Evening Air is undeniably the vocals puts the album in a rather sorry state of affairs, given their fairly awful grinding.

Heavily hyped indie duo She & Him, composed of actress Zooey Deschanel and musician M. Ward, released its second album, Volume Two, which (unsurprisingly) follows its 2008 debut Volume One. Hype aside, however, Volume Two is, at its best, little more than a strikingly banal indicator that the purpose of She and Him is aimed more towards reviving the most cloyingly cheerful soft rock from the history of the genre than writing genuinely creative music, and at its worst, awful.

NYC rock band The Bravery was founded in 2003 by Sam Endicott and John Conway, who met when they were classmates at Vassar. The band released its self-titled debut LP two years later, followed by the fairly successful The Sun and the Moon - both received with mixed critical response. Its newest album, Stir the Blood, takes everything that was good about the band's last two albums (for their flaws) and tosses it out, opting instead for what mostly constitutes a thirty-five minute study in banality.

Múm is an experimental group from Iceland whose previous work has been marked by a strong electronic influence. Since their formation in 1997, they've released six albums. Their newest album, Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know, is varied enough in its experimentation that it should by all rights be at least interesting, but it manages to fall short.
